On 4 January 2019, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark (HKUGGp) received the “My favorite natural attraction in Hong Kong” award at the presentation ceremony of the “U Green Awards”. The “U Green Awards”, which are based on the results of an online public poll, is in an annual event to recognize entrepreneurs and organizations that have shown leadership and made an outstanding contribution in nature conservation and promotion. Waste reduction is the major theme this year.

Winter fishing began on the ice surface of the Third Lake in Wudalianchi UNESCO Global Geopark on December 28, 2018. The old winter fishing attracted a great number of tourists.
Sacrifice was one of the most important parts in winter fishing. Fishermen showed their respect to the gifts bestowed by nature in folk dance. Nine big drums stood besides the sacrificial altar. In the early 20th century, Lushan became the summer resort gradually because of its beautiful geological landscape and nice climate. At the golden age, over 4000 foreigners from America and European countries lived in Lushan. In 1906, Kuling American and British schools were established for foreign kids. In 1916, Kuling American School was founded. Until 1937, nearly 3000 students were graduated from the school, which was one of the most important foreign schools in Central China.

Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark (HKUGGp) invited a number of local experienced Chinese medicine practitioners and herbal plant experts from the Hong Kong Chinese Medicine and Herbs Association to provide a training course on herbal plants for geopark guides and villagers of geopark communities to broaden their knowledge of common herbal plants and the intangible cultural heritage of Chinese medicine.
The training course comprised indoor lectures and outdoor field trips that were both practical and fun. Through the training, the participants acquired a fundamental understanding of Chinese medicine, learned to identify …

Through the collaboration of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) and the three note-issuing banksof Hong Kong, the 2018 New Series Hong Kong Banknotes were unveiled on 24 July 2018. Among the five new denominations, the HK$500 banknote features the world-class hexagonal rock columns in Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. The notes will be put into circulation in early 2019-20, replacing the existing 2010 series.

UNESCO’s Executive Board today approved the designation of 13 new Geoparks for sites demonstrating the diversity of the planet’s geology.The world network now numbers 140 UNESCO Global Geoparks in 38 countries.The  newly designated sites are:
Famenne-Ardenne, Belgium
Three components characterizing the Famenne-Ardenne Geopark are clearly visible in the landscape: Famenne, to the north, is a large depression with a schistose substratum.
