As part of our collective endeavours for the ongoing betterment of the APGN, representatives from the Chinese Geoparks Network and the Japanese Geoparks Network participated in “APGN Exchange Week” at the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark (HKUGG) from 14 to 20 December 2016. The exchange programme focused on sharing experience and facilitating mutual learning on the APGN platform.
In the seven-day programme, managers and specialists from Alxa Desert UNESCO Global Geopark, Arxan UNESCO Global Geopark, Aso UNESCO Global Geopark, Itoigawa UNESCO Global Geopark, Oki Islands UNESCO Global Geopark, San’in Kaigan UNESCO Global Geopark, Unzen Volcanic Area UNESCO Global Geopark, Hakusan Tedorigawa Geopark, Nanki Kumano Geopark, Sakurajima-Kinkowan Geopark and Tateyama Kurobe Geopark exchanged views on geopark management and the promotion of geotourism. The participants also discussed and shared their experience on the difficulties and opportunities regarding the promotion of sustainable geotourism.
The geopark managers and specialists also went on excursions to various geosites to learn about HKUGG’s work on geoconservation, science popularization, interpretation panel design and visitor facilities. During their visit, they met with indigenous communities, geopark partners, and geopark schools. Geopark representatives commented that this programme was fruitful and conducive to knowledge exchange in APGN.
